Global Languages

Reach your dreams

Do you want to get to know some of the 6.5 billion people who don't speak English? Talk with friends, neighbors, or family members in their birth languages? Travel around the globe and read the world's most influential books without needing a translator? Stand out from the pack by becoming a bilingual job candidate? Global Languages can help you reach these dreams by learning to speak American Sign Language, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, and Japanese.

Explore Global Languages

If you've never studied a language before, welcome! We're looking forward to seeing you in our introductory classes (ASL 101, CHN 101, FRE 101, GER 101, JPN 101, SPA 101, or POR 101). If you've started one of our languages in High School or earlier, or if you've learned one of them as a child, well done! Your hard work will pay off as soon as you take our placement test, which will let you know which class in the language sequence you should start with.

If you're interested in learning more about Global Languages, get in touch with our faculty or come visit us at our many campus events:

  • weekly conversation tables, where students and community members practice their language skills
  • student organizations for advanced language students and for people interested in world cultures
  • movies from around the world at Cinema International
  • the annual Language Showcase, where secondary students from the region compete and show off their language skills
  • and other opportunities to practice your language skills, such as French Poetry Night
One student stands to the left playing a harmonica and holding a guitar; another student sits to the right playing a guitar.

Did you know that one out of every four human beings speaks the languages that we teach? Our faculty would love to help you join the conversation and learn more about opening the door to bilingualism. Get in touch with us directly, or contact our department chair or administrative assistant:
